I love hermit crabs but have never owned one before. I was very suddenly gifted one last night (a thinstripe!) and I'm trying to make sure I can give him the best care I can. I've gone through all of the care sheets and guides on here already and have taken note of everything, and I'm about to put together my first crabitat.
I am, however, a little concerned. From what I'm seeing his species is aquatic, and while they can be out of water for a few days, they aren't land crabs. With this in mind, should I give him a fully aquatic set up or would a normal crabitat be okay for him, as long as I supply more water for him? I can only have him in a 20gal for now, but I'm not opposed to getting him a larger tank if needed.
I also saw that his species might be rather punchy towards other hermit crabs for their shells, regardless of needing them, and I'm torn between letting him be on his own vs. getting him a companion. I don't know which would be the better option, so any insight would be appreciated! I'm open to any and all suggestions and advice.
