Hungry crabs post-molt

Post by hermitsinnc » Sun May 28, 2023 11:41 am

My big 2 both just came up from molting this week. (They have been down for a couple months.) Since then, I've been feeding them about 2 teaspoons of different dried food per day, and they're eating almost all of it! Yesterday I gave them some zuchinni and squash from the freezer that they could've cared less about, some tuna and salmon that they ate a good portion of, and an ENTIRE cube of frozen bloodworms that they demolished. I totally get it; they've been fasting for months, and I've never had two come up at the same time. but WOW.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? How long can I expect the extreme eating to last?
3 PPs: Maxwell (small), Mitchelle (medium/small), Kendall (medium/large)
also have 10gal freshwater fishtank w/ neon tetras, pygmy cories, and nerite snails

I’ve had it happen with fresh molters. Mine will also go crazy if I give them foods they haven’t had in a long time

Update: I gave them an entire chicken liver and it's gone. (I'm assuming it was dragged away but can't find it anywhere.)

What do you feed your crabs?

Kinda whatever. I have a few dry mixes of fruits and vegetables, plus freeze-dried mealworms and shrimp. Occasionally commercial fish or crested gecko food as well. Other things like forage or fresh produce when I remember to give to them

It can be hard to remember to switch it up, especially when you get busy!
