New Shell Or Good Enough?

We inherited a hermit crab a few years ago and have upgraded to a 40 gal tank and try to make sure he's ok, but...He molted over a year ago I believe and the shell he's in is about 1.3-1.5 inch 'opening'...We've actually had 3 orders from Amazon to TRY and get a bigger shell as he can't go in 'all the way'...I'm not sure if he needs to be able to get completely in or??...If I need a shell, how can I be sure it's large enough??...The Amazon ads state 1" to 2" but they ALL seem to be 1.5" with NO 2" openings...

Shells get harder to find as crabs get larger. Have you tried a shell store, like Naples or Richard's Sea Shells?

Hobby lobby sells packs of turbo shells for $5, I got two of them and got some big shells! Definitely got one 2" in each! Here is a link to what they look like for reference (not my photos)! https://images.app.goo.gl/X3HCmLLhi6BBKFfcA

Check Etsy too. Sometimes shops on there have larger shells available.
