Are money tree leaves safe for hermit crabs?

I've been coming here for information for about two years now. I've definitely learned a lot, and my care has improved tremendously over the couple of years that I have had my hermits. However, this is my first time posting!

I just recently got a 75 gallon tank to upgrade my hermit crabs to and I've been having some trouble finding bulk leaf litter that's not too expensive to combine into the new substrate. I do happen to have an oak tree in my yard, and I also have a fairly large money tree that drops leaves from time to time, which I have been collecting and drying out.

My money tree has never been treated for anything, and I always heat treat or wash items that are going into my tank, but I'm just wondering if anyone knows if the leaves are actually safe to be ingested? I do have plans to add a few live plants to the new tank once it's ready (spider plants), but leaf litter is surprisingly expensive where I am
