My hermit crab ceaser who i have had for abt 6 months suddenly died right before a substrate change, and idk why.
I got him from a friends family who gave him to us, and he was pretty happy so idk what caused his sudden death.

Sand is abt six inches deep
I offer both fresh and saltwater. Idk the brands bur i have been using them for awhile
Humidity ranges 80-85 and temp is usually 75ish but its by a window so can get down to 68ish on cold nights( i use a heater under the tank but it still warms the rest)
30 gall tank with 5 hermies two small, two mediums, one teeny

I lifted the little coco hut and i found him, falling apart( most of his torso was gone idk where it went) nothing in the shell or other spare shells so ik it wasnt a molt, and it smelled. Any ideas in what happened?? Also he is a small hermit crab.

If i need to fix anythibg in the tank please tell me i am worried abt my other crabbies if im doing smth wrong.

he could've been attacked by another one of your crabs if parts of him are missing.
I'm sorry he didn't make it :(

Sorry your crab passed away. We can't do any kind of diagnostics, so really have no way of knowing if our crabs are ill, and many times don't know why they pass away.
This for sure didn't cause the death, but a UTH under a crab tank is a fire hazard - they are to be placed on the back or sides of the tank.
