Limp antennae / broken antennae

Post by Alexisr.17 » Thu Feb 20, 2025 9:10 am

Yesterday I had my big guy, crimson come up from his molt. (He's a jumbo, about the size of a softball) I noticed indigo climbing and poking at him once he was up, and didn't think much of it. Crim is very very gentle, and even when indigo was climbing on him, wasn't shelling, a d she wasn't near his eyes/antennae. Now to today, she was running on the wheel, and one of her antennae were dragging by her pinchers, and not moving. We've moved her to the "baby" tank, with a small crab (indies a large medium/small large). Both antennae were working fine yesterday, but I'm not sure if crim maybe got tired of her being around him, (they were together when I adopted them about 5 months ago, and no previous aggression, only crim not knowing how big he was and would walk on everyone).
Is this normal? Will it be okay? There's no aggression in the tank from the other 2, there's over 30 shells, 2 food dishes that change every night to prevent resource guarding, so I'm not sure what's going on.
Indigo hasn't even been up from her molt for a month, and she was down for about 2.5 months, hence I'm worried if she'll go down early to recover, and if it'll heal with in one molt.
Thank you so much!!

Aggressive behavior is possible. Does the antenna still appear limp?

On the bright side, it’s not life threatening. I would monitor but probably wouldn’t intervene unless you witness an attack. If the antenna gets dropped it will probably start to grow back but otherwise I’m not sure

The antenna broke off as soon as I put her in the big tank with crimson, like within a few hours, she has the thicker part closer to her body and seems to be able to wiggle that around.
She has been a bit of a uhm....pain? to crim by following him and wanting to go to the food if he was at the food (I do have 2 food dishes to help remedy this, even before the antenna issue), when she wasn't initially interested and was drinking. Crim seemed to sort of just give her a warning as he walked by with his antenna. I had another dude accidentally climb on him, and the most he did was slowly raise his crushing claw in warning again, and the other dude backed off quickly, but again I haven't seen any aggressive behavior, just trying to re-familiarize themselves with the "new" dude
Edit: the two (indie and crim) were able to sit and eat at the same dish, about 6 inches apart, and he only slightly pushed with a leg while still eating, her away when she was leaving and got a little too close for comfort to him im assuming.
Also, there was another dude trying to get past crim, (he likes to plop his butt down and eat for a solid hour, but then wont touch the food for the rest of the day/night until its refreshed at around 7:30) and he shifted to help the lil due out, and the most he did was flick the outside antenna back towards his shell, (like when they do when slightly annoyed or agitated, when someones close or climbing each others shell), but didnt make a move towards him.
And the other dude in the tank, Obe, the one who had the claw raised and was trying to move past Crim, only will "attack" when provoked first, as i had one crab go straight for him and try to get him out of his shell right after the new dude (scarlett, sorry for all the names) was put in the tank and the most that Obe did was push him away and climb his shell, obes claws werent near eyes or antenna, and scarlett is now in isolation cause this has happened before and i dont want him to do this again!
thank you so much sorry for the info dump!
