Shell sizing help

Trying not to invest in a calibrate if I can help it right now (unless a place I buy shells from ends up having one at decent price). This guy has been SUPER active since his molt and new home. And has showing a lot of activity wanting to change shells but I don't think I have the right sizes for him. I swear he went from tiny to now Medium guy overnight! Any help with your favorite shops (I have looked at link and went through a few)

Have you tried joanns fabric? They have a pack of various size green turbo shells. If not may I suggest online?

Ok dug threw all my crab supplies and found some shells, I measured and all of these seem about 1inch. Took out the shells I had laid in there that were to small, Bc my other 2 guys that are down are even bigger than this guy! What do y'all think? Good selection? My measurements I showed...1inch where I need to be with this guy? Thanks in advance!

Also I don't have the measuring tape by them in this photo but about what size would you think I need to grab when they come up from molts? I only have like 3 larger shells bigger than the 1inch opening the smaller guy is in so need to grab some for my large guys!

Do you have a ruler? A child's school ruler would work... You'll want to measure the opening. Then order some 1/4 to 1/2 inch bigger. Naples Sea Shell Company, Richards Seashells, and Sea Shell City are good places to buy from.

Naples seemed super expensive but Richards decent price...now to get the whole transferring from shell size to opening size down. Even reading the chart didn't help much. Got a feelin I'll order to big

You would really be better to purchase a caliper to measure the shells. You only measure the opening that they fit into. Let me find a website for you that explains it.

If you are measuring the largest section of the shell (usually the very middle for turbos) inside edge, to inside edge- meaning the literal open space- you can get a general idea of the size. Imo a caliper is one of those extras you really only have to buy if you are struggling with measuring, or you feel like it's easier. It won't be exact meausuring with a tape measure, but the crabbies aren't exact either. It can be trial and error, and the larger shells do get pricey... I would know.

I've got 4 in the 1 inch plus range. Unfortunately since there is a shell shortage in the wild it makes the demand higher, and therefore the shells are more expensive. Richards is my fave, but be warned they do take a bit of time to get to you- I'd say 3-4 weeks after processing, shipping and such. That being said, their customer service is great, just make sure to specify your needed sizes in the comments and mention that they are for live crabs. They seriously are great guys there.
