Sometimes our crabs need a little boost. A change from their regular food that is both healthy, nutritious, but unnecessary to feed in large amounts every day.
I didn't have time to run around and find individual ingredients for the health of my hermit crabs, and I wanted an easier solution. I made this recipe and recently discovered it on my laptop, and it was my favourite. It took only a day to gather the ingredients, and most of it can be found in health food stores.
I usually pick up organic.
Bee pollen, 2 tbsp
Lavender flower, 2 tbsp
Sprouted Quinoa, 2 tbsp
Pumpkin seeds, 1tbsp
Sunflower seeds, 1 tbsp
Barley groats, 2 tbsp
Dandelion root, 2 tbsp
Shredded coconut, 2 tbsp
Red lentils, 3 tbsp
Dried rosehips, 2 tbsp
Carrot powder, 1 tbsp
Kelp pieces, no salt added, 3 tbsp
Whole rolled oats, 2 tbsp
Organic dried mango, 3 pieces chopped
Note: Super important to find organic dried mango, as it won't have added sugars, preservatives, pesticides, or sulfur. It should be hard and dry, not sticky.
This makes a lot of hermit crab mix, and I fed it as a supplement every week. Good if you have a lot of hermit crabs, but you can make smaller batches if you only have a couple.
I kept my dried meat mixes separate from my superfood mix, which I fed as well.
Check this mix every couple weeks to make sure the organic seeds and nuts do not go rancid. Store in the fridge for a longer shelf life. Feed a tablespoon or two at a time depending on the crabs, should last 14-28 servings.
