HCA: Hermit Crab Association

It seems I have really picky crabs. I make them a little salad of different things every night but they never seem to touch anything but the kale.

Example - Last night they had a salad of kale, chopped pieces of organic tomato, blueberries and a piece of raw tiger shrimp and shell. The only thing touched was a piece of kale and I really splurged on the shrimp They won't eat carrots, celery, mango, peaches, eggs or shells...

I've offered them unseasoned and cooked chicken, calamari, shrimp... They have never touched any of it What are your crabs favourites??

I'm very new at this but this has been my experience. How long do you leave the food before changing it? For me, it seems like they won't always eat my offerings first day but wait until the second day. Also, I have to vary what I feed day to day, usually not offering the same food more than 2x a week. I also noticed crabs that have been fed commercial food for a while will ignore fresh food at first. Finally, they are really small so they don't eat very much.

My PPs were all about raw ground beef. My Es like rose petals, prickly pear and grapes. All of them like honey and peanut butter.

I will try raw ground beef and see how that works

I usually leave it in there for a day and a half to two days. I'll try giving them more variation.

My crabs have expressed instant interest in crushed walnuts, carrot dices, hardboiled egg yolk, boiled shrimp tails, pb + honey mixture, and maybe a rolled oat. I feed in the late afternoon and they were eaten by the next morning.

Crabbers unite!!!

I put a whole cooked shrimp in the tank a couple days ago and 15 minutes after I put it in the tank it was gone. Pumpkin and sunflower seeds are a hit also dry shrimp, bloodworms, krill, daphnia from the pet store gets all gobbled up too.

Hm, they didn't like eggs or carrots. I did test putting a cap of organic honey in the tank and when I woke up it was covered in sand so I assume they went at it. Maybe I'll grab some organic peanut butter. is that what I should use?

They haven't touched the shrimp piece I put in yesterday. Maybe I'll cook one tonight and see how that goes over

I went out and bought organic chunky peanut butter, a coconut, red peppers, organic apples, sardines, salmon, chicken livers... here's hoping they like something! Lol

Crabbers unite!!!

Mine never liked shrimp or sardines. I could just put in their 4 favorites and be done with it.

My PPs love chicken liver cooked with a little EVOO. Walnuts, eggs, watercress, greens, krill. Last night they destroyed a piece of raw deer meat.
