My current hermit crab food I am using came from the Hermit Crab Patch. It came with a little sample of "worm castings." Has anyone used this or knows is it is safe? It says it is 100% worm castings.

Worm castings=worm poop. That stuff is awesome! My crabs go so crazy for it I buy it in 1lb packages from the Hermit Crab Patch and I keep it in their tank constantly. It's absolutely safe.

Wow, mine weren't that crazy, but I only have three, and they only come out at night.

My five guys are all still up so you'd think there would be quite a bit of chowing down but nooooo. Most "exotic" foods will get "fondled", one or two will get "pinched" but, if it's not their homemade dry mix or raw egg whites, they're seeimgly indifferent. The two foods that have caused a sensation recently have been avocado and raw ground turkey. The latter was served in an eggshell half which was commandeered by Big Enzo: he pushed the shell into the coconut hide, went in and then piled sand in the doorway to make sure he kept it for himself :hlol: ! My Alaska HermitCrab order arrived so I'm looking forward to introducing one of the new items tonight, perhaps one of the flower varieties or maybe the bee pollen.

Big Enzo must be very entertaining. I remember you told me a story about how he likes to try to fit into tiny shells

He's a hoot, has no idea how big he is and is a wuss to boot! The turkey was in an eggshell supported by the lid of a Gatorade bottle. When he started pushing the eggshell, the bottle top slid away from the eggshell and under the back of his shell, elevating him just enough that he couldn't get into the coconut hide doorway. I reached in and slid the lid from under him but he was sooooo focused on that turkey that he didn't even notice that his butt had dropped over a 1/4". The other crabs were scuttling away from the Pink Monster but, Big Enzo, with his back turned, was oblivious to the abet he was given in his theft of the food  .
