Mosquito larvae for food?

Post by shanedaman112 » Thu Aug 11, 2016 1:00 pm

I happen to have a bag of mosquito larvae because I wanted to see them under a microscope... they died some time in the middle of the night, but they still look fresh. I'm just wondering if its dangerous to feed them to crabs?

Also, I took the lens out of the microscope and figured out how to take micro pictues :)

You know, I haven't yet run across anyone feeding mosquito larvae, but if they're already dead and the crabs will eat them, you can certainly try it.

I don't see what harm they'd do.

In the off chance anyone ever tries this make extra sure they are dead... I didn't think it was possible, but A few of them transformed into mosquitos even in that tiny bit of water. Luckily they didn't cause any harm or escape.

Really! Wow! Living in Florida I am so conditioned to be anti-anything-mosquito I would never have thought of it. How does one make extra sure they are dead?? What if one is not dead and a crab buries it? I'm intrigued and freaked out at the same time, lol.

Well if they're alive they will absolutely squirm. If they don't squirm in a few minutes they're definitely dead... I live in Florida as well so I actually only had these because I was removing them from a little ditch so we could prevent some from hatching. I then decided to study one under a microscope.. Later on since I had them on hand in a bag, most of them dead I gave them to the crabs to eat.
