other than eggshells, oyster shells, coral and cuttle are there any minerals you like to offer your crabs?

Re: mineral supplements
People have raved about HCP's mineral blend for years. It's proprietary, but it seems to be bentonite or montmorillonite clay both of which are high in calcium.

Re: mineral supplements
Some people suggest hymilayan pink salt, though I haven't looked into the veracity of its supposed healthfulness.
Also, greensand is a common name for glauconite.
Here's the wikipedia page for it, explaining it's mineral composition and origins :

When @RosieonFire said I sold glauconite...I was like...I do? I had no idea that was the scientific name for Greensand!!LadyJinglyJones wrote:Some people suggest hymilayan pink salt, though I haven't looked into the veracity of its supposed healthfulness.

Re: mineral supplements
Pink salt was the thing that made me rally the troops to rethink the whole "rust kills crabs because iron is deadly!' crusade that used to permeate threads. It's like, y'all feed pink salt? Then y'uns crabs are getting lots of iron, duh.
Things like Pink Aleae salt would be a good choice as well, as the colour comes from mineral packed volcanic clays.

I suppose people could question if bioavailability mattered, and whether different oxidative states might affect crabs variously... but I suppose the conversations back then didn't hinge along those lines? (I'm asking out of genuine curiosity.)

Nope, just "rust bad", even after JMT did research into it.

Jumping in kinda late here, but, so it's ok to give them straight Himalayan pink salt? I always have it at home so will give it to them with their food if that's ok?

I cant see the difference from just having it avaliable to putting it on food.Crabsalicious wrote:Jumping in kinda late here, but, so it's ok to give them straight Himalayan pink salt? I always have it at home so will give it to them with their food if that's ok?
