HCA: Hermit Crab Association

Saw these at local pet store. I know the others are safe but are pink cornflowers, blue cornflowers, and red cornflowers ok for hermit crabs? Also are blue mallow flowers crab safe? Thank you in advance.

If I don't see it on the list, I avoid it. I don't want to accidentally poison them or make them sick.

Check out your local natural food stores for organic herbs and flowers! We just got a bunch of Healthy stuff for our crabbies

im not an expert but my guess is that most flowers are probably safe. looks like a nice mix!

There are a bunch of flowers that are not safe for crabbies. I personally don't take any chances.

The flowers listed on the package are all hermit safe

I used the tortoise one. It’s all safe and the crabs love it. I’ve never seen the lizard one though!

It should be just fine, we just haven't trialed specific species of those flowers before.

Cornflowers are in the same family as thistle. Ants destroy my cornflowers every spring so I know they are insect-friendly!

Mallow is a pretty odd collection of edible flower species that not a lot of gardeners keep because they are kind of weedy. Hibiscus (including rose of Sharon) is a close relation.

I've bought both the Bearded Dragon and Tortoise versions for my crabs. They're similar to my old Wo-Pourri mixes.

We got some of your Wo-Pourri mix with three of our January Rescues. The crabs love it, and your garden mix too!

Thank you so much! I did some research and found that the ones were in hibiscus family and I know some things can have a few different names but I didn’t find any info that I felt safe enough to get them without asking. I’m going to stop back over and grab both bags then. Thought it was pretty decent for $1.99 and my crew loves their flowers. Thanks everyone. I wish you still sold your foods, wodesorel.

It's good that you ask and not take chances! I love how everybody is always here to help. We just gave AJ a medicinal bath thanks to the help of people who have had injured crabs. We wouldn't have known how to help him heal up without help.

Definitely! I love my crabby crew so much, I would never take a chance. How is AJ doing? I feel so bad for him, often thinking about him. Hoping he heals quickly. Sending healing crabby vibes to you. <3
