HCA: Hermit Crab Association

Hello All! I feed my crabs apple in every dish, their particular favorite seems to be golden delicious apples, but i want to expand since they are expensive. Are there any apples they cant have? i know some types have lower and higher ph, more or less acid, and ranging sugar levels! Im sure this is a relatively unexplored topic, but if you know please do share!

There shouldn’t be a limit nutritionally. Hermit crabs are adapted to eating foods at a variety of sugar and pH levels, same as most plant-eating animals.

In experience do they enjoy sour apples?

I’ve never offered sour apples because I don’t like sour apples xD

Now that is the truth lol

I get a selection from the farms every fall, and my crabs get the cores to pick clean. Haven't found them to be very picky, they really like all apples.

I get bags of organic apples at Aldi's. Pretty much whatever is avaliable at the time, I get. Like everyone else mentioned they don't seem very picky. I know I offered Granny Smith, Gala, Fuji, Honeycrisp and Pink Ladies. I believe they eat them all, but I never really thought about preference. You would think crab apples would be their favorite!
