For my 55, I discovered 1 bag of sand or 1 brick of coco fiber added exactly 1 inch of substrate. I ended up using 4 bags and 2 bricks and got 6 almost 7 inches of substrate. I ordered a two part glass lid from "That Fish Place" and am very happy with the product, shipping, and packing job. The back has a plastic lip that was easy to drill and didn't crack so I able to drill holes for my tubing and thermometer probe. I used clear duct tape for the back section and am currently using books to hold down the front. I saw someone use clamps to hold down their glass lid, so as soon as I get to a hardware store, I'm going to pick up some clamps. Image
