Tap Water in Substrate!

Post by BigOrange92 » Mon Aug 14, 2017 3:07 pm

I didn't think much about it, since I was just wetting the substrate, but I used tap water(!). What should I do now - pull the crabs out and replace the entire substrate?

It'll be fine! The substrate will diffuse anything that could cause problems and if there is just chlorine it'll be gone in 24 hours anyways. Chloramines break down with anything acidic so if you've some EE it'll be fine as well. No need to panic!

I did this in my first crab tank, and when I realized I worried myself sick imagining chlorine hurting my molter....and then one day he popped up good as new, and I realized it was fine. I think your crabs will be fine!
