Lol. I'm confused. I thought it was a background that looked 3D. Flat. A picture. Not actually 3D.
They're 3D. They come in different levels of thickness, but they're premade, 3D backgrounds that are made to fit standard tank sizes.

Yeah. I splurged on the tank and the backdrop. The rest was rather inexpensive.

And they're all purple pinchers. I've had some of them for about 8 years now, but the biggest one, I have only had for 2 1/2 years. He had been with his previous owner for 13 years before she rehomed him to me after the rest of his buddies died off. So, that big one in the photo above is at least 15 years old, but I don't know how old he was when he entered the pet trade. He might be older.

That's so cool. So having been a crabber for a long time, do you think that if there was a regular background picture (unclimbale) they would try to climb and be frustrated? It's bad enough they don't live in the wild but I would hate to tempt them with glass that looks like a jungle scene.

I don't think it would frustrate them. I think they just kind of see the world is climbable or not climbable, and that's that. You could always hang some fish netting or other climbable material. I do that on the side walls to increase climbable surface area for them and give them more space.

Ok. Good. Yeah, I've got some netting and stuff. I'll of course be putting more in the 90. I can't wait!!

Definately! I have another question. I do have a background, one of those from a petstore, laminate. Would I be able to tape it to the inside of the tank? Since I have to stick the uth directly to the glass. I don't want to stick them on the paper.

I might have to see a photo to know for sure, but most of the pet store backgrounds are meant to adhere on the exterior of the tank. A lot of people use a light layer of petroleum jelly to make sure that it sticks well. You could always cut away the background where the uth will be, leaving a wide space around the periphery of the heater to prevent any accidents.

Hmmm.. when I used it before I just taped it on. So I would use tape inside if the tape wpuldn't be harmful.

If you tape it on the inside, I don't think the tape would be particularly dangerous, but they will peel it off over time is to climb on it. Also I would think that having it taped where the heater is would still lead to the background eventually melting or warping, perhaps onto the glass itself. You could always try putting the heater at a side, so that the background could line the back properly.

Aahhh. Ok. Although I wouldn't think the heat is high enough to melt it. Easier though to remove it than if it was on the outside with the ultratherms stuck on them. But actually wouldn't they melt faster that way? (I'm thinking aloud here) I already got the heaters big enough to fit the back. They'd be too big for the sides.

@Hermiesguardian, I would put tape on the inside - they could eat the tape. Hermits try everything!

@Jclee - I love your background! Can't wait to see new pics of your tank now that it is redone with your new crabs also!! :)
Truly blessed to have incredible creatures, wonderful friends and my amazing family in my life!! I'm very thankful & grateful for all of them! www.thehealthyhermit.com

That's what I figured.
