Pools too big?

Post by piratetoothgir » Sun Feb 11, 2018 4:24 pm

Could my pools be too deep for my crabs?
They are the kritter keeper, small size.

Hmmm. . . . maybe? I'm not sure. Mine are small plastic containers, but I have a small-medium and a medium-large crab. Depends on how big your hermits are, I guess. Do they seem to have any trouble getting in/out?

I use kritter keepers as well. I just filled mine about 2/3 full of aquarium gravel so they were not as deep. Adjust gravel depth according to your crabs size, not deep enough to submerge them 100% but maybe up to 75% of their body. It's also good to add something around the edge to help them climb in and out, I use plastic garden fencing cut to size to make a small ladder.

As long as they can get out easily, they not deep at all!

I'd say a pool is only too big if it's difficult for you to clean & just generally deal with.

Much too difficult with my schedule, and what’s coming up.
I’ve got four new crabs coming from a member on this forum, and the pools were switched back to the original bowls that they like better!
