Doing Everything Properly?

Post by piratetoothgir » Wed Feb 28, 2018 12:11 pm

Just thought I would create a topic having to do with my tank, and making sure that I am doing everything I am supposed to do. Here are my basic and advanced procedures that I follow.

What kind of tank do you have, and what size is it?
It’s a 55-gallon glass tank, made by Aqueon.

What kind of substrate do you use, and how much do you have?
It’s a PlaySand and EcoEarth mixture. I have eight inches at the deepest point, and five at the lowest.

How do you keep your tank heated?

It’s an Ultratherm 47x11 pad, and I keep it around 85 degrees.

How do you keep your tank humid?
I spray it using a spray bottle, and it stays at 90 percent.

What types of food do you offer?
Here’s my feeding schedule.

Day 1: Proteins
Day 2: Fruits
Day 3: Vegetables
Day 4: Calcium
Day 5: Fats

I always vary my foods by groups, and never feed the same thing twice each week.

What types of water is available?
I keep bowls of fresh and salt water for the crabs, and I mix in four tablespoons per 48 ounces of water.

Do you have any spare shells available?

Yes, I keep around 25 extra shells in a large container, with more on the way.

Any other routines or schedules you follow?
Weekly, I will move around the plants or decor that might have gotten knocked or pulled down. I usually don’t like rearranging as it’s a bigger tank, and much harder to do.
My last time to handle a crab was yesterday, due to having to rearrange because of a problem that occurred. I never intend or desire to handle any of my crabs.

I am now set to a limit of six months between redoing the tank, and a month between handling.
Lighting is left on twelve hours a day, from 8 AM - 8 PM run by a timer.

Tank is located in my closet, with a reading chair :)

Looks good! The only thing I will say is you might want to add a bit more substrate on the low side. Also, could you elaborate on your feeding schedule? :) Do you only feed food in that group for that day?

No, I often blend all the groups together sometimes, like I did last night.
Last night I fed spinach, walnuts, coconut, dried mango, and mulberries.

I also get a yearly shipment of EE that I add each time I receive it.
Still have one brick in storage.
