I’m helping a family member setting up a hermit crab tank as I’ve had no issue with mine in the past. I’ve done the research and got a tank all set up, but seem to have missed the part about PPS. So far 2 crabs have succumbed after purchasing them. One came home, burrowed and died the first day and then another lost 2 legs and died today. As far as I know the other 2 are doing well. But the tank is set up with 6 inches of substrate and I read,after the fact, that with new crabs they shouldn’t have enough sand to burrow in. Should we redo the crabitat so that the others can’t burrow and die? I’m stressing about them stressing and dying.

I’ve never had this issue before so idk what to do to keep them alive and make it past the PPS period.

You can start either way for trying to preventing PPS, but the one thing you should never do is go backward on conditions. So now that they are in they should be left alone.

Okay!!
The others are doing good. 2 are super active and the other is alive just shy!
Idk if they are eating though. I am also a bit afraid the humidity isn’t good enough, when the lights go on it goes down but when they are off it goes up.

I have go try that moss in a cut method. I’m just stressed that I’m messing them up some how
