Chia in moss pit question

Post by leah610 » Thu Jun 21, 2018 5:38 pm

I recently tried to sprout chia in moist spagnum moss in the tank. The sprouts grew really nicely- and one of my crabs (Kai) loves being in the pit with the sprouts. Would it be ok for the sprouts to die off in the pit and to leave it as is and sprout more seeds after? Should I replace the moss at all, or would I need to replace the moss every time I sprout more seeds? Thanks!

Mine grew well in there too.
You don’t have to replace the moss, it won’t hurt anything.

Hmm...it depends. If the sprouts are in abundance and got mushy when they died off then I would remove them. If it's just a few sprouts here and there, then it shouldn't be an issue. Chia doesn't make it to the sprouting stage in my tanks. :)

Hm, okay. The moss looks about normal since the sprouts died, but I'll inspect further a little later I'll replace as necessary if I see that the moss gets funky or something
