Spot Cleaning The Inside Of The Glass With Crabs Inside?

Post by Motörcrab » Tue Aug 14, 2018 10:59 pm

Our tank seems to build up a thin layer on the inside of the glass making it appear foggy. I was wondering if it is safe to wipe down the inside of the tank with organic apple cider vinegar while there are crabs in the tank? It is acceptable to clean a tank with apple cider vinegar rather than standard cleaners before adding crabs. Vinegar is not on either safe or unsafe food list, not that anyone would give them vinegar to drink. Would the Apple Cider Vinegar pose any respiratory issues with the crabs?

I can’t speak for cider vinegar, however I have used white vinegar with no ill effects. I usually wipe it really well with water until the smell dissipates.

I normally use plain water to clean the glass, if ever. Vinegar I reserve for stubborn mold (won’t hurt the crabs, I know, but I’ve allergies).

I've used whatever vinegar I had on hand for cleaning glass before. Does not bother them! I've been tending to use distilled water for glass cleaning these days because I hate the smell of vinegar, but it doesn't work well on hard water stains.

I just take a paper towel, and wipe the inside of my tank. I don't have to use anything on it and the glass wipes clean. Sometimes I use a spritz of dechlorinated water - but very rarely.
Truly blessed to have incredible creatures, wonderful friends and my amazing family in my life!! I'm very thankful & grateful for all of them! www.thehealthyhermit.com
