Post your 20 gallon tanks!
I've had a 10 gallon tank for my small crabs for the past few years and it's definitely worked for them but I've wanted to upgrade for the longest time. I'm hoping later this year I can get a 20 gallon long tank. I kind of like seeing the all natural decorating of some tanks but then I also want a hamster wheel, colored igloos in my tank and I can't make up my mind! What do your tanks look like?

Awesome! Tanks seem so expensive and hard to find. My brother has a leopard gecko in a 20 gallon long so I'm hoping he upgrades his gecko this year and I can have the 20 gallon.

With a 20 gallon long they are only 12 inches tall. Once you add the proper 6 inches of substrate you will only have 6 inches of area for decorations. Coconut hides and cholla wood are about the only things that will fit. You may want to consider a 20 tall instead.

I feel that getting a 20 tall would leave the crabs with less of a footprint. That would result to more molting conflicts if you would put the same amount of crabs in the 20 tall as you would for the 20 long. That would mean that it would be better to have less crabs in the 20 tall than you would in the 20 long.Motörcrab wrote:With a 20 gallon long they are only 12 inches tall. If you would want a taller one to fit more than what Motorcrab said, you could get a 29G. Twenty nine gallon tanks have the same footprints as the 20G long, but is 6 inches taller.robinwhiskers wrote:I've had a 10 gallon tank for my small crabs for the past few years and it's definitely worked for them but I've wanted to upgrade for the longest time. Long tanks limit the size of the crabs they can support, as there is not much molting depth. Once they get to a medium size they need more than 6 inches of substrate.
Tall tanks limit the number of crabs, since there is less room to spread out while molting.
The trick is finding a tank that works for the crabs you have/want.

I definitely recommend a hamster wheel, it’s great exercise for them. A few of mine will walk on it all night long, it gives them a chance to make up for all the walking they would do in the wild.
