Moss Pit
Do your hermit crabs prefer a dry or a moist moss pit? I did a few projects for my tat over the weekend, one of which was sealing the drainage holes in the bottom of my moss pit with silicone so that the moss would stay moist. I thought my crabs would love it but so far I haven't seen anyone in there. Just wondering if anyone has noticed whether their crabs like wet or dry moss pits better.
Re: Moss Pit
Our crabs love a moist moss pit! We silicone the bottom, but leave holes for drainage. The eat the moss too

Re: Moss Pit
I think it is a crab preference. Some of my crew go in it either way. My moss pits generally dry out in a few days so you can start off damp and let it slowly dry. A heavy misting will usually bring the moss back.

I think my crew seems to like it dry. Salty has her one spot and she seems to sleep there while the moss is dry. I try to keep one spot dry and another spot somewhat moist, they don’t seem to go in it right after I wet it. I do have a few crabbies that are somewhat new and I don’t know what they prefer yet.
