Humidity High But Dry Moss?

Post by AutumnFalls » Wed Apr 03, 2019 10:41 pm

So, I have an odd problem. I recently added a second moss pit and my humidity has been great! It's around 90% with the tank fully covered and 80% with the saran wrap pulled back a bit. Anyhow, the last two times that I've cleaned the tank, I've noticed that my moss is very dry! It was bone dry once and 80% dry the last time. I calibrated my hydrometer a few weeks back so my readings should be accurate. But, I'm not sure if it can be that humid and still have the moss dry out. Any ideas? Should I soak the moss some more?

Moss is always the first thing to dry out, it's why it's so good for boosting humidity! All that moisture goes into the air easily, which keeps the substrate at the right consistancy. You'll likely need to keep rewetting it regularly.

Thanks Woodsorel! I don't know why I didn't think of that. I guess I've always struggled with keeping up the humidity so I don't know what to do when it's good. I'll start rewetting it more often.
