Best heat pad?

Post by CrabbieFoxes » Thu Dec 31, 2020 11:04 am

I have a 10 gallon tank, approx half deep with coconut fiber/sand. Do I need a Galway mat to attach to the back of the tank only above the substrate level? All the way across the back or only half way? Best brand? I already have a thermostat it can plug into.

Thank you!

i have an ultratherm from reptile basics
it covers the whole back side of my tank and it is important that it is closer to the top of the tank so it is not heating the substrate

I just tried to buy an ultra therm from reptile basics website and many of their sizes were out of stock. Ended up at the bean farm website. They had every size in stock but the prices were a little higher than reptile basics.

You can have the mat either way. Heating the substrate will give you crabs more options for temperature while molting. It will also help increase boost humidity. Although you will have to keep an eye on the substrate from drying out. The length across the tank depends on your location. Ours cover the back above the substrate, and we also add an additional heater on the side too. The Ultratherms seem to be everyone's favorite, another good option is also the Flukers heating pads too.
