Oh my, that would have drove me crazy too! I've honestly been waiting for nearly 2 months to get this 100 gal set up! First i had to move into the bigger room, which meant a whole bunch of cleaning, repainting, etc. Then move in the new tank, get the sub set up, and now we need a top. My room is so dry the substrate dried up in only one day, so I know I can't do this without one. And I don't want to wrap with the clear wrap stuff because it seems to be too much of a hassle.
Wow, it sounds like this has been a long process! I'm sure your crabbies will thank you once they move into their new home.

I have some plastic bags that are saran wrapped around the mesh lid. It's definitely not the prettiest thing, but it works. It's only a 20 gal long though. I'm sure doing that would be a super pain for a 100 gal.

Yeah it would be a pain to wrap it all lol. Especially since in the middle of the tank there's a piece of glass already siliconed in. So it is sectioned off into 2 pieces on the top.

After writing you I decided to just bite the bullet and get a glass top. I got it on sale today from Petco for about $17. It's actually an aquarium top for a 20 gal long, but it works. The 2 glass pieces are hinged, so now I don't have to slide the mesh lid on/off to access their food/water.

Lol good for you!! I personally find glass and Plexiglas to be better as they seem to be much easier to deal with than saran wrap lol. but its good that you found a cheap top for your tank! I think the plexiglas top we had custom made for my 29gal tank was about 20 or so dollars.

Haha thanks.

Of course there was about an 1/8" gap at the back, even though the top said 30"x12". It has a plastic strip in the back since it was really made for fish aquariums, and the strip wasn't wide enough. Thankfully I've had a lot of different size aquariums over the years and had a wider plastic strip to use that covered the gap. But it is def easier than saran wrap lol. And $20 for your top is great, specially since your tank is so big!

Hey, as long as it works, it works, lol. And the 20 dollars was for my 29 gal top. But hey! luckily, we found sheets of plexiglass just a little bit bigger than what i need for the 100 gal today, only 14 bucks for each sheet! its not perfectly clear, but it'll work!

Yep! I got the tank set up now, though the netting on the back of the 29 gal might be discarded. and i need to get some craft mesh for the pools.

That's great!
Where did you get your netting from? I'd like to get some when I upgrade to my 55 gallon.

I think we got some of the net from Walmart. We were browsing the store when we decided to redecorate the tank and found some, but I don't remember where.

Ok I'll have to give Walmart a try. They may have something in the fishing/sports area I could use. Thanks!

If I find anything good I'll let you know.

I should be moving in a couple of months and will be able to set up my 55 gal.
I can't wait to see pics!

That's awesome! How are the hermies enjoying their new home? I bet you'll have fun finding all kinds of extra goodies to put in there since there's so much room.
