We got Ultratherm heaters for our 10 gal (the E's tank) and our 20 tall tank ( the pps tank). The heat stays at the right temps, however, I can't keep the humidity up! I spray the tanks twice a day! I take the moss out of the "mosh pits", as we call them, and soak them every morning. The moss is always brittle dry and the sand is dried out. We have the right mix of sand/substrate. What are we doing wrong? Why can't I keep the humidity at a somewhat constant level? I have the heaters in the right places. We live in central Pennsylvania and it's winter here. Any tips and suggestions are welcome!

Re: Heating and humidity problems
Hello
Sometimes winter air can be dry, and heat can also take the humidity out of the air.
Have you considered adding air stones to your pools to help boost humidity?
What type of tops do you have? I personally think that glass tops help tremendously.
Sometimes adding more substrate can help boost humidity. You can safely add 1" every 24 hours without packing it down.

Re: Heating and humidity problems
Hi hi!
So many people's houses get super arid in the winter when the heating kicks in - my house is really bad at about 17% humidity right now.
1) do you have a lid that seals in moisture? Mesh lids don't do anything for humidity.
2) do you have a bubbler set up in either of the pools? This can help.
3) is your sand sand castle consistency? Moisture can come off the surface of the sand in dry weather, and may need to be periodically remoistened.
4) are you sure your hygrometer is correct? Try calibrating your hygrometer to ensure you are getting an accurate read: viewtopic.php?t=92540
Edit:
Haha , GB beat me to it.

Re: Heating and humidity problems
Update! I've been able to stabilize the heat and humidity! The claw babies have been out and eating...well, most of them. There are still 3 down, but I'm sure they are fine. They pop up to drink, then go back down. The winter months are difficult, but with all the suggestions I've finally found what works! Thank you!LadyJinglyJones wrote:Hi hi!
