reed oil diffuser

Post by sydlutz » Mon Dec 18, 2017 10:00 pm

i recently purchased a reed oil diffuser, and it is kept in the same room as my crabitat. the tank has a screen top, but i also place thin books on top of the screen to keep in moisture. i didn’t even think about the crabs when i purchased it; they just slipped my mind. is it safe for my crabs to keep the diffuser in the room? thanks!

Just looked up what that is; is it an air freshener? If it is, I wouldn't use it near the tank. It could affect the crababies' lungs. I never had it happen, so that is just my opinion.

Goodbye my little E. See you soon.
Bye Fred. You lasted almost 4 years with me. Hope you're with my E now! See you soon Reeba as well. I can't believe I lost you only after a month.

I know of crabbers who use oil diffusers in theif crab rooms, but I think they generally have sealed lids. You can cover the screen with plastic wrap, press n seal, or a plexiglass/glass panel if you're worried about it.

I'd be a bit nervous about not knowing what's being released into the air by the oils, but it really depends on exactly what you'e burning, I suppose. :dunno:

There have been cases over the years where candles, perfume, incense, and air fresheners have been blamed for killing crabs. I also know that many crabbers including myself have used these things with no deaths. I'm left not really sure what to think or recommend, other than if you want to be extremely safe to not have it around the crabs.

We do incense in our home but it is not kept in the same room as the hermies. I keep the hermie room as clear and free of anything I’m not 100% sure about.
