Hefty storage container as a topper?

So I realized I did some measurements wrong... and have like 3 inches left of my 40b for climbing... *big ole sigh*
So I was wondering if I could use a storage container as a topper as tanks get expensive. Probably hold it down with Velcro or something. Would this be a good idea?

Certainly!
Is there any reason there is only 3 inches left? A 40 breeder is 18 inches deep - you don't need that much substrate!!

I only measure 16, and I added an inch of false bottom. This is for a few Es so I'm gonna need nice deep sub for them

I've tried this concept on a smaller scale and had trouble controlling humidity. If you get a good seal it shouldn't be a problem.

Any type of tape works well, coming from experience.
