Heat Pad

Post by Moonlightdreams » Wed Apr 11, 2018 2:04 pm

My new heat pad just came in the mail, squeeeeee! We're going to have some toasty crabbies!

I have a little All Living Things pad, which barely raises the temp a degree. I have a two bulb light fixture, and a Moonglo bulb, but it zaps the humidity out so fast, I'm not comfortable leaving it on overnight. The daytime light does the same, but it raises the temp to 80, so I just keep an eye on the humidity and mist the tank when it gets low.

In saying that, I've been using the little heat pad at night, and the temp drops to about 74 degrees. (Let's not mention the two times the AC was left on and it dropped to the high 60s. ) So this is where the new heat pad comes in, and I hope it works well. If it heats to, say, 80, I can replace the daytime bulb with one that doesn't emit heat, and hopefully my humidity problems will be somewhat solved.

Anyway, has anyone used this kind of heat mat before, and if so, to what results? It's an 8x12 iPower heating pad. :D

I'm not at all familiar with that brand - is it a seed starter mat, for reptiles, or something else?

Let us know how it works!

Maybe. It's pretty warm already. Way hotter than my All Living Things ever got. I shut the light off, put plastic wrap over the lid, and turned the pad on maybe 45 minutes ago? Temp was at 80 with the light, and it's been a steady 78 for the past 25-30 minutes or so. Hopefully it heats up some more, but if not, I'll be okay with it. It'll be nice and warm while I'm away this weekend. :D

Me too! I've been having an awful time with humidity, what with the light being so hot, and it was getting too cold at night. This new pad is looking good, though!
