Ventilation?
I seem to always have a build up of excess condensation on my glass, and it's really annoying.
When it's like this, I cannot see any of my crabs very well, and it makes the tank look really dirty.
Is there any way to open up the airflow rate in the tank, without causing a large dropping of the humidity.
I have a constant rate of humidity well above 105% which explains the issue. I really would like to see my crabs, and not have to search for them even though they are contained with me.

I wish I had a buildup of condensation! My humidity is too low for my liking. I have a hard time maintaining it.StellaCrab wrote:I seem to always have a build up of excess condensation on my glass, and it's really annoying.

Re: Ventilation?
You could try getting a little cpu fan & making a little craft mesh guard box for it to keep the craboos off. Airflow might reduce condensation. Bubblers improve air flow in a tank somewhat. And you could try drilling a hole or two in the lid if it's acrylic.
But the condensation is probably caused by the difference in temperature of air inside versus outside of your tank... there may not be a lot you can do about it if the room is a lot cooler than the tank.

Re: Ventilation?
Thanks, I may be able to try a little desk fan which I have, I could put that to blow inside the tank, or just open up one of the cutouts on my hood.
I'll let you know what I come up with!

Re: Ventilation?
If you have a strip of space between the front panel and the lid the airflow will also help reduce condensation as well.

Re: Ventilation?
Okay, everyone. I opened up the lid for a while, it let out some of the condensation, but didn't change the humidity or the temperature!
I think I will open up a section on my hood, and see how it goes!
This is a 55 gallon by the way.
As soon as I get my shower caddies, and Kaytee Silent Spinner, I will change it!

Re: Ventilation?
Just be sure there isn't enough space for a crab to escape... crabs are sneaky....

I won’t put anything that they can climb on to reach that point. We should be good.LadyJinglyJones wrote:Just be sure there isn't enough space for a crab to escape... crabs are sneaky....

They can climb the silicon seals. There is nothing in an aquarium they can't reach!

Fullly enclosed hood all the way around. I will probably just leave a gap between the lights and hood to allow the air to get out.wodesorel wrote:They can climb the silicon seals. There is nothing in an aquarium they can't reach!

Re: Ventilation?
I had a similar situation in my 20g tall tank before we upgraded to the 55g. I purchased a plastic desk fan about 5inches in diameter from Walgreens for about $7, hung it going across the tank with zipties. Because it was an electric fan, I had the cord running out of the tank to a timer with a dimmer switch. This is odd to say, but one of my crabs, now deceased, used to love it when the fan came on! He would just sit in front of it (lol). But it did help with the condensation build up. Good luck! Hope ur able to resolve the issue soon!
