Is Aquatopia food ok for hermies?

Post by Angel_crab » Tue Apr 17, 2018 6:43 am

I was recently browsing online for my Hermies (food, decor, ect) and kept seeing the Aquatopia brand hermit crab food pop up. Has anyone had any experience feeding this brand of food to their crabs? Just curious, as it says it’s got 35% crude protein, and thought it would be good for my crabs when they come up from a molt - along with their usual protein foods :)

I have not used that food before, but unless you can list the ingredients, I wouldn’t call it safe yet.

I would ask, what's in the multi-vitamins and minerals? Things to avoid include anything with chromium, zinc, cobalt, among others.

Yeah, I don't like that they don't list everything in it. "Cereals" is generic as well, and could literally be waste products from breakfast cereals. This reminds me of some of the commercial foods that are made for feeder crickets.

Thank you for your replies :) I think I’ll stay away from the food, as it doesn’t seem too reliable.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’d love to be able to shop at the hermit crab patch for my crabs food, but they don’t ship their food to Australia :(

There is a serious opening for someone wanting to start a food store in Australia - nudge nudge.

Just for future reference, anyone that has a farmer's market, or bulk foods store is always welcome to obtain dried, and fresh foods for their crabs.
I just picked up freeze-dried raspberries, blueberries, and bananas. Looking for a whole coconut to use as a hide, and to feed the meat!

Yummy, that sounds great! I mostly feed my crabs dried foods (with plenty of variety) to avoid mold.

That's fine, I prefer feeding fresh foods to simulate the real wild diets they get, and dry food occasionally.
I did plantain chips last night.

Fresh foods should be removed after 24 hours.

I used to feed my crabs with fresh food, but they never ate any of it. I just feed dried foods now :)

I have never fed any of my current crabs any type of commercial packaged foods. I now have to search through my local grocery and farmer’s market for organic foods.

Everything I give them is 100% organic :)
