Adding Substrate

Post by piratetoothgir » Wed May 02, 2018 12:53 pm

Is there any possible way to add more substrate if you have things dug into it?
I have Tupperware, and I would like to avoid having to dig them, but will if I have to.

I plan on adding more substrate this summer or the early start of fall. The crabs are getting bigger.

I'm not sure I understand your question, but you can safely add 1" per 24 hours if you do not press down on it. :)

I meant if I can add substrate without taking anything that is on the ground or partially buried :)
I went searching in the forum, and saw that you will have to carefully remove things in the ground.

I will just add some more EcoEarth this fall, which is when most of my crabs have finished molting :)

Carefully removing them is probably your best bet. If there are any little caves directly underneath them you may have to put it off.

I would not take the risk- you would have no idea knowing if there are caves or tunnels if you are pulling it out of the substrate.
