Recommended tank size for a Jumbo

Post by crabby33 » Thu Jul 05, 2018 4:31 pm

Is a 40 considered too small for a jumbo? I'm thinking a 55 or a 75 would be better. A 55 is 12 inches wide while a 75 is 18 inches wide. When I can, I will likely convince my parents to get me a 75 Gallon tank. The first thing I want to do is show them what the HCA recommends and why it's so important to provide the crabs with deep substrate and climbing options. I figure if they see this site, they will understand better.

Jumbos should have at least a 75 gallon tank, with it being 18 inches deep.

Yeah, I agree. I thought making the jump to a 75 would be better. Thank you. The reason I was asking is that Buckbeak is in pre molt and is currently in a fluctuosus with a 1 1/4" opening. I have 2 tapestries with a 1 1/8" opening and I recently bought a pearl turbo with a 1 3/4" opening just in case he molts and makes the jump to a 1 3/4" opening. I realized a shell with a 1 3/4" opening is a fist sized crab. He hits that size, I will have to upgrade.

Do you have a picture of the crab?

Jumbos need an 18" wide tank. 15 gallons per crab for jumbos.

She barely takes up any of that shell! You have years before she'll need anything bigger.

Okay, I took out the 1 1/4" shell sizes now that I know the crabs don't need shells that big right now. Now I have shells in there ranging from 3/4" openings to 1" openings.
