Moss pits & shell shops

Post by crabby33 » Sun Jul 15, 2018 2:17 pm

I would like to add a moss pit and shell shop to my tank but I don’t know of any Etsy shops that sell them specifically for hermit crabs.

You can use spaghnum moss and a shower caddy for a moss pit. You could also use a shower caddy for a shell shop
One or hopefully two Clypeatus

You can also use a plastic baskets for moss pits or for shell shops. For shell shops, I line it with coco fiber on the bottom so it isn't slippery. :)
Truly blessed to have incredible creatures, wonderful friends and my amazing family in my life!! I'm very thankful & grateful for all of them! www.thehealthyhermit.com

If you use a shower caddy, you can weave plastic plants and nets through the holes and ziptie them

The only shower caddies I could find at Walmart were the ones with handles and they were too big to fit in my tank. I wanted the ones that mount on the wall. I have, however, seen a free standing moss pit made from coconut shells at Hermie's Kitchen.

i went to dollar tree and grabbed a shallow basket and wrapped it in burlap.
You could also use coconuts, cut one in half and use it as a moss pit.
i couldn't find shower caddies at walmart that were small enough for my tank, they were all giant.
Also, if you're looking for moss, check out TheHealthyHermit on etsy. :)

Here's what I did with my dollar tree basket. I'm thinking about adding more burlap, but it's very simple and I'll be using it for a shell shop. I'm going to hang it with command hooks. Image
