AC is out

Post by crabby33 » Thu Jul 19, 2018 6:36 pm

My AC is out in my apartment. It was 95 degrees in the tank. I threw away my ZooMed heaters because they crapped out on me and I haven’t bought another one but the tank is sealed.

You could try sitting ice on top of the cage in a bowl, be careful of the condensation, I am not sure what else...

Freeze bottles of water and put the frozen water bottles inside the tank. Also, aiming a fan at the tank will also help immensely.

Thank you for the responses, but my mom and I are planning to buy a critter keeper as temporary housing and pick up my crabs until my AC is fixed.

That's really not necessary and will just stress the crabs out more from being moved around.

As long as the temperature inside their tank is mid 90's or below they will be fine. The substrate will be cooler and they will bury in it if they are too warm on the surface.

Okay, it turns out my AC has been fixed. They probably just buried last night but I will not dig them up if they did. It was about 95 in the tank. Thanks for the advice.

YAY! A broken AC in July is a NIGHTMARE! I had to move my tank into our spare room because we added an AC in the kitchen and the house was staying too cold. So, without an AC in the spare room, it gets HOT. Their temp was 94 yesterday. I've tried keeping the door open to let it cool a little, but that makes the rest of the house hot! But i've noticed when the temp gets high, mine bury into the substrate. Except one, he actually gets closer to the heater? I don't know, he's weird. Haha.

I completely agree. The highest the guage read was 97. My AC is also in the kitchen, it had been blowing hot air all day. So the AC was turned off and I turned my tank light off. The temp started to go down. The crabs had sought out hiding spots to cool off. Violet, my female, is in the cork log. While Buckbeak, my male, is in the reptile hideaway. Buckbeak is also in pre-molt, so I’m staying hands off with him.
