New crabitat!!
So I FINALLY got to start setting up my new crabitat last night and couldn’t wait to see if any of my crabbies would be awake so I could move them lol. Well, 2 DID grace me with their presence...I let them eat and wander a bit before moving the 2 and it’s been so fun watching them explore....change shells...explore...and just be so much more active. It’s still not all the way done, just some basics....need to add the foliage and have some things on order but they have so much more room! Was hoping the other one in my old tank would awake like last night but he hasn’t so I’m leaving him alone for the time being. This is so addictive! I should be fast asleep but instead I’ve spent the last few hours watching them lol
A huge thank you to everyone here for their advice!

Yay!! I would wake up at 4am and try to catch a peek. I finally bought cameras with night vision so I can watch what they did the night before.

Yay! Can’t wait to see what you have going. I bet you crabs thank you for the much needed space. So jealous that your crabs changed shells already. Fingers crossed for the other guy that you’re waiting to come up to switch over. Cheers!

I have yet to figure out how to get my pics on here. It always tells me my file is too large, both through Tapatalk and from my iPad. Guess I should try from my laptop maybe?aussieJJDude wrote:Congrats on the upgrade! Look forward to the crabby pics!

Re: New crabitat!!
Um... Default max on Tapatalk is like 20MB per photo. What did you take your photos with? Most cameras and phones will be under 12MB per photo. Either something is badly glitching or you're doing RAW images.
When I need to make inages smaller for something, I either Instagram them and use the new saved image, or I message the picture to myself in Facebook Messanger and save that new one.

Re: New crabitat!!
I took the pictures with my phone so I thought it would be okay but keeps saying file too large. Then when I uploaded to photobucket the link wouldn’t let me copy/paste....but this is all from my iPad so maybe that’s why. I was also trying to change my profile picture...are the size parameters different for that?wodesorel wrote:Um... Default max on Tapatalk is like 20MB per photo. What did you take your photos with? Re: New crabitat!!
In the far right back corner where the rock formation is..I was thinking of hanging a crocheted bridge I bought to maybe a moss pit from there, opinions? Like right from the edge of the structure to it and then more foliage on the other side...left of a moss pit along the back wall? This is a work in progress lol so any suggestions appreciated!

Re: New crabitat!!
Tank looks good. The only thing I would suggest, which you touched on - is the lack of use of the vertical space. Fill it up with branches to climb on (oak branches make a great DIY for example, if known for not having pesticides on it), but second levels and foliage really allow them use of all that empty space!

Re: New crabitat!!
Congrats on the upgrade! You can also zip tip cholla together, or purchase fishnet to use as climbing material!
I second the branches. They must be on the safe list, and be free from pesticides and fertilizers.
You can deep freeze them or bake them in the oven at 250 degrees for 10 min with the oven cracked to kill bugs.
Edit: You might want to put a modified hamster wheel ( I like the kaytee silent spinners) - modify using zip ties and craft mesh - hermits love them - they walk miles in the wild. Also - more hiding spots would be great too!

Truly blessed to have incredible creatures, wonderful friends and my amazing family in my life!! I'm very thankful & grateful for all of them! www.thehealthyhermit.com
Re: New crabitat!!
Thanks for the ideas! Slowly but surely I will add more. I do have a question about using suction cups though. Wouldn’t the metal hooks be a hazard? Just a random thought I had. I have a jungle vine to add and it already has a suction cup attached so there isn’t a metal hook but to hang the bridge I was going to use store bought ones. I saw in pics on here they were used but wasn’t sure if maybe they were modified and the metal hook taken off if that makes sense.

The metal is fine IMO.
