I’ve got mold on my mopani wood. I keep my tank spotless. 6 bricks of EE and one bag of 50 lbs of sand in my tanks and all four of my crabs are under. Do I have to dig and start over? Temp is 90 and humidity is 85. I don’t want this to hurt my guys...and I did soak my wood before adding it it.

Oh so far it’s only in one piece of wood I’m afraid to move it cause I really don’t know where 2 of my crabs are....ack and it’s partly buried in the substrate.

Isn't 90° a little too hot for crabs? 80% humidity is perfect though. If the wood isn't deep down where the crabs likely are, you can gently pull it up as I've done with decor before. You can clean the wood and soak it in MSW afterwards.
5 PPs: Koa, Moja, Siam, Chella, and Ozark.

Mold doesn't hurt the crabs. It's only bad for you if you are allergic.

Ahh thanks that makes me feel better. And no I’m no allergic. I read in the older forums that isopods will help get of mold is this true?

Isopods will compete with mold for food sources which can help! Springtails eat actual mold and mold spores.

I find that a quick spray with salt water will kill most moulds in the tank.

Just be cautious on how much you use - the water evaporates but the salt doesn't, meaning that it will build up to unsafe levels over time.

I too get mold on my wooden decor. Is the suggestion to soak them in MSW first? Should that prevent mold growth? I’m afraid to spray the tank with MSW because of the salt residue that gets left behind.

I have had really good luck boiling in heavily salted water and then letting it dry out completely. I use regular sea salt for that, since it's the sodium chloride that acts as the mold inhibitor and it's crab safe. Saves a bundle over using MSW! Regular salt is not enough for their drinking water, but it's fine to use on items.
