UTH

Post by kaykmerr » Fri Aug 24, 2018 7:26 pm

Struggling to get temp in 10 gallon tank to 75 degrees. Bought a second UTH today, so could take a full 24 hours for it to show full effect, however, with both heaters and hood lamp, I’m just now to 75.2 Image are my heaters too low? if so, can these be moved and still stick well? (One is already coming off on one corner and is less than a week old) Image

Just my opinion but the ZooMed ones suck...they just aren’t powerful enough. I ended up getting a UTH from Reptile Basics that goes all along the back just above the substrate. I also had a Zilla heat mat but never used it so I can’t comment on the quality. My son is currently using that one on a 20 gallon tank so I can ask him. You can move the ZooMeds...mine had been moved a few times and it still stuck. I actually still have it on the side of my old 10 gallon tank because the UTH on the back of that one isn’t big enough. Hope this helps

Ooh those are way too small! For Zoomeds you need one or more that will cover the entire back for there to be enough heat!

Can you return them?

If not, they should be placed above the substrate to heat the air. Insulating around them - not over as they could overheat - and on the lid can help as well.

I agree that the heaters are too small. You could also try insulating around them - don't put anything over top of those ones.

On a different note, how deep is your substrate? It looks pretty shallow at the far end, but could just be the angle of the pic.

We will def be trying insulation! Substrate is 6-6+ inches throughout tank. Thanks for the reply!
