Re: Heating Question.....
I would think the heat would stay up near the top. But I may be wrong.

Re: Heating Question.....
I have. Does work, but most of the heat accumulates near the top and results in bad 'current'. Plus on the back, its not really as visible as it is on top (which I think is a nice bonus, which is good if you use additional lighting or other equitment)

It should cover the entire back of the tank from the top of the substrate to the top of the tank. That helps heat the air in the tank.

Re: Heating Question.....
I found in all our tanks 75G, 55G, and 30G having a heater covering from the substrate all the to the upper rim works best. If the heater covers across the entire back, and one side, with insulation, and using class tops they all keep the temperature at or above 80 degrees.
Our 10 G we have an 11X17 Zoomeds on the back and insulation on one side and using a glass top. The temperature will vary between 75-82 degrees depending on time of day. EDIT: The ZooMed IS NOT Insulated only one side of the tank is.

Re: Heating Question.....
Heat rises, so that is why it is best to put it lower near the substrate line. Don't forget to insulate if possible
Don't insulate zoomed heaters.
Insulate around them.

Re: Heating Question.....
Ya thats what i was thinking .. do you think it will still rise and heat well if i put it low where the sand would be and still heat the air through the sand up to the air ... or ? Right now im lucky been moving around blankets etc .. im at 75 so ...but id like 75 to be reg 75-80 why im experimenting alil .. or buying another heater ...GotButterflies wrote:Heat rises, so that is why it is best to put it lower near the substrate line. Re: Heating Question.....
Place the heater at the substrate line to the top of the tank. If you get an Ultratherm it can be insulated. You don't really want to heat the sand. It will dry it out. Although many people here do cover the entire back. And you can put another heater on the side of the tank.Hermie escape artist wrote: ↑Sat Jan 19, 2019 11:53 pmYa thats what i was thinking .. do you think it will still rise and heat well if i put it low where the sand would be and still heat the air through the sand up to the air ... or ?
