I thought algea was a sign of a healthy tank. But I saw this on facebook. Is it true? Because both my tanks have algea.

As I know algae is on the safe foods list for them to eat, I do not see how it could be a bad thing or harmful to them. But I will bow to some one with more experience than me.

This is absolutely false. Algae means that oxygen is getting to that part of the substrate.

The anaerobic bacteria that is harmful cannot survive in oxygen.

It can also only grow where there is light touching it, so what you see against the glass is all there is.

It's still not a good idea to place any tank ever in direct sunlight, no matter what creature is inside. Glass acts like a greenhouse, and a comfortable temperature can quickly become dangerous in some situations.

I have just recently noticed that green and diatomic algae is growing in my fresh and salt water pools, which was probably caused by the new lights I just put on my crabitat.
