Calibrating hygrometer

It's winter where we live and the relative humidity is 75-90% (reported by weather departments).

I'm calibrating a digital thermometer/hygrometer with salt in a zip bag. Will air humidity drop down to 75% with starting air humidity higher than this? I've got half cup salt that is wet to soggy consistency.

From my understanding yes. It works with equalibrium, and the salt will keep the humidity in balance.

Thanks. I think it just took a bit longer (10-12 hours). The Bunnings cheap-o digital kit appears to be within 2% which is pretty good for $20!
