Holes in sand

So this guy decided to dig a tunnel under and in between bowls, leaving a gaping hole just underneath the calcium pit.

Can I fill it to add support for any sand surface items, or to leave them be? ImageImage

I pretty much leave mine be, I have holes everywhere and a large hill on one side. You can try, but if they want a hole there, you'd be fighting a losing battle. JMO

Unless they are going back and using the holes, I smooth them over to keep the bowls stable.
