In need of expert advice on Humidity in the tank

Post by Avlisjacire1 » Sat Jun 27, 2020 10:13 am

I have a 55 gallon tank, temp is perfect at 80. Humidity is difficult to maintain it seems to drop easily. I will be getting some miss to add to the tank, but what are your thoughts on a bubbler? Do they also help bring the humidity up? Just looking for some tips. Ty!!

Bubblers help a lot! They've been a crabby life saver in my case, you just have to be careful of flooding. In most crab tanks people have much smaller water bowls than the smallest water bubbler is made for (1-5 gallons) which creates a lot of splash back.
One way to minimalize this is to use Tupperware as your water bowl and cut the lid in half to allow the crab accessImage

What do you have for a lid?
What do you use for substrate?

Thanks for the tips! I have a mix of sand and coconut fiber. And glass lids for the top.

Have you calibrated your hygrometer to ensure it's accurate?

How deep is your substrate? I have found that with deep substrate I don't have issues with my humidity. My substrate is at 12-14". I also moisten my substrate with dechlorinated msw.

My sub is about 8 inches, if I go deeper the sub will go above the UTH that I have on the back of my tank. I've read it isnt good to do that because it dries out the sub and can make it too warm and cause bacteria blooms. I have been spraying the top with declor water when I do my weekly cleaning and it seems to be perfect now. Humidity and temp are prime. So excited that it has balanced out and I'm seeing consistency with temp and humidity. I was concerned. Thanks for the tips!!! You all have been great and so helpful!!
