I am currently using a 20w heat lamp for my 8 gallon tank. I've heard that heat lamps are bad because they make the environment less humid and make heat spots. I am not baving any problems with humidity but I'm worried that if there are heat spots it will hurt my crab.. Is it really that bad?

I would recommend getting an Under the Tank Heater. You can get them off of amazon or at most pet stores. Just make sure you get one that is the right size for your tank and mount it on the side, not underneath.

I think the average price is 20-30 U.S. dollars. I got 2 for my 40 gal and i paid $50.

A heat lamp is fine. You live in a humid location, so as long as your humidity in the tank is good, your lamp is just fine to use. If the lamp is one that shines on part of the tank (ie- it's not the whole top of the tank), the crabs can move away from the hotter spots if they don't want to be there.
