Types moss good boad?

Post by Alaina » Thu Aug 05, 2021 3:19 pm

I norm use reg. Moss but I'm making a new crabitat and purchased a decorating kit for reptiles, thinking it was all regular moss. My fault for rushing but when I opened it I realized it's diff kinds. Of course it says all natural and safe but we all know that's not always the case. I know norm most reptile items for crabitat are safe...I'm just not sure. I looked it up online and the one said not safe even though I saw it listed on someone's thing here. Can anyone give me a Y/N. Thank you guys!
1.reindeer moss
2. Blonde sphagnum

If it’s safe for reptiles it’s probably safe for hermits as well. Those are all mosses that can be used in animal enclosures.

Thank you. That's what I thought i use alot of reptile stuff in the tank for that reason but I made the mistake of looking up the blonde one. As you know there is always someone saying something different, and this other page said it was bad. It gave me pause so, I figured I'd to ask. Esp. since I norm use plan old moss. Thank you again. I guess that's what I get for using the internet 😆

Blonde sphagnum is the least decomposed layer of sphagnum moss. Unless it’s contaminated with something I don’t see why it would be considered unsafe.

Galapagos brand may play a little fast and loose with their mosses, many of their things are dyed. That's the only case I can think of where reptile may not also mean safe for crabs.

Thank you, I feel much better. I know I was probably worried about false info but after I read it I thought most ppl (including me) norm just say moss..maybe there are bad ones reptile can have" plus I never trust ppl who work at petsmart..I know they are well intended and I live the employees at mine but they have no idea what they are talking about. I literally had one person tell me not to use a certain sand then another employee said only use that same sand lol. I don't use either since I use Depot for sand. Thank you. I really needed to hear someone say it was OK. My crabs thank you both
