Missing hermit crab

Post by scarlet » Mon Dec 18, 2017 1:48 pm

So I have a total of 12 hermit crabs and one of them is missing. I got a baby strawberry hermit crab about 5 months ago and he right away started to bury himself. I didn’t think anything if it just thought it could be stressed or molting or something. Months go by and I hardly see him but I do. About three months ago he went under and had all the signs of pre molting but I realized he hasn’t come up yet. I looked for him in both of my tanks and he is no where to be found and I have no idea where he is and I don’t know what to do because it doesn’t smell like he died and I’ve clean my room and moved everything around trying to find him but I can’t at all I need help.

Strawberrys are very fragile so it is possible that he went down to moot and didn’t make it through. He also could still be molting- 3 months isn’t untypical!

I'd like to add that sometimes new crabs do dig down to de stress. One of mine took months to come up, so that could be a possibility

Hello Scarlet! :) So a few things come to mind. How big is your tank? Do you provide a lot of protein and calcium? How deep is your substrate?
Truly blessed to have incredible creatures, wonderful friends and my amazing family in my life!! I'm very thankful & grateful for all of them! www.thehealthyhermit.com
