Vacation

OKay. So I am going on vacation for a week and I will not be able to look after my crabs. The last thing I want to do is leave them without anyone to watch them, but I don't know if anyone can. If I left them, they would not receive proper care by any means. The humidity would be below 20%, and the water would be full of bacteria. My mom said she might be able to do it, but only if I bring them to her house. She has no idea of how to care for these animals and is stubborn when following instructions. Help? Advice? > I really need some as I am leaving in a few days Thanks.

I'm no expert but they couldn't survive with that low of a humidity you could get a auto humidifier and heat sensor for you light and just ask your mom to feed them this one day or this another day

In this case, finding someone to care for them would be best. You could leave instructions for them on what to check/do. They really would not do well if the humidity/temp are not stable. Dirty water is also a big concern. For food, you could just load the dish(es) up with dried foods that'll keep longer. This way whoever is watching them for you would mostly just have to focus on refreshing water and keeping conditions stable.

The only problem is I have 2 molters in the main tank - One I can see through the glass (He is all the way at the bottom ofthe sub) So should I just leave them?

So long as they are warm enough and the substrate isn't going to dry out they are okay to leave there.

What's going on that your humidity level is so low? Most tanks are self-regulating to a point. It shouldn't be dropping that low within a day or week.

Well, Last time I left them was for 4 days. The humidity sank to 20%. I have a mesh lid so it is hard to keep humidity in. I was thinking of wetting some towels and them putting them on the top to help. I usually put stuff over the lid so the heat and humidity wont come out.

Screen lids should always be wrapped in plastic or foil to hold humidity in. Wet towels work short term, but as soon as they dry out they'll start sucking moisture out of the tank as well.

What kind of substrate are you using? Is it kept at sand-castle consistency? Do you live in an insanely dry climate like Arizona or parts of Texas?

For substrate I have sand castle consistency, and it is 5:1 sand and eco earth. It is very cold where I live right now, as Winter has just ended. I will try to wrap the lid in some plastic wrap or foil. I have a 90 Gallon tank, so I think that's why it is very hard to keep the humidity up.
