You will see his exo skeleton if this is a surface molt- or looks like a shell of him, do not throw this away!

Sometimes they don't move for a while when they are molting. This is normal I think. Other crabbers may know more. A dark undisturbed place is best right now, to reduce stress while molting. Good luck!

Give him some time and only assume he is dead if he starts to smell strongly of fish- not the irony smell you may smell if he is molting.

I replied GB for GotButterflies
jfs wrote:Ok, thanks for all the help, going to fill out the template right now.

:TEMPLATE:

The substrate is a 50/50 sand and cocofiber, about 1" deep. (I have a 40 gallon tank and 6 bags of coco/sand I just do not have time to set it up with school)

GB: Substrate should be minimum of 6" or three times the height of your largest crab (whichever is deeper). It should be playsand and ecoearth 5:1 ratio, mixed with dechlorinated saltwater or dechlorinated freshwater to be sandcastle consistency.

A dual humidity and thermometer guage.

GB: Heat should be minimum 80, I don't let mine go over 85. Humidity should be a minimum of 80, no maximum. Hermit crabs have modified gills and need the humidity to breathe.

A heat lamp is used (grreat choice I think (75 watt))

GB: Heat lamps can affect humidity greatly. A lot of us crabbers prefer UTH (ultratherm heaters). We use them to heat the air though. We place them on the back of the tank above the substrate instead of under the tank. www.reptilebasics.com or www.beanfarm.com

Fresh and salt, Zoomed conditioners

GB: Zoomed salt water is not sufficient. You need marine salt water to mimic the ocean water. Most of us use Instant Ocean. This needs to be replaced asap.

Zoomed hermit crab food

GB: Some commercial foods are not safe.
Commercial food list: http://hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/ ... 25&t=92555
Safe food list: http://hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/ ... 25&t=92557
Unsafe food list: http://hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/ ... 25&t=92556
Food pyramid:http://hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/ ... 25&t=92554

Just of 4 weeks

They have never molted

A 10 gallon as of today(Need to set up my new 40 gallon tank asap)

3 crabs, 1 In iso right now (ISO is a 5 gallon)

GB: I personally recommend 1 crab per 5 gallons, if they are small or medium crabs. I would say you are a little overcrowded. If possible, try to add more levels in your tank if you are not able to upgrade. You could try finding a deal on Craigslist, Offerup, Letgo, Varagesale, Bookoo. Search Tank, reptile, aquarium, terrarium.

6 shells

GB: The HCA recommends 3-5 shells per crab. I personally recommend more. There are incorrect shells to buy. Here is the shell guide: http://hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/ ... 24&t=92552

no fumes/chemicals

every 2 weeks

no sponges are used

nothing new

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I still recommend fixing your tank recommendations so that you do not lose any other crabs.
